Based on a true story, Extraordinary Measures is the story of the quest of John and Aileen Crowley, a couple with two children stricken with the rare genetic disorder Pompe Disease. Most afflicted children die by the age of nine. Unwilling to wait until science got around to developing a treatment, John teams up with cantankerous scientist Dr. Robert Stonehill, and together they race against time, but not against hope, to develop a drug to save John's children.

After raising some money through a newly formed foundation, they invite the brilliant, but difficult, genetic scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill, to their home to discuss partnering with them to discover a treatment. But Stonehill has a surprise of his own.

But when they discover that continuing the quest will require everything they have, they are forced to count the cost.
